We arrived in Oaxaco around 8:00 am this morning. Our bus was a first class, we were given a drink, in a can, and a package of cookies when we got on the bus. We also had two movies to watch, only one was in english with spanish sub titles. I may learn how to speak spanish yet.
We found a good room right away, Casa Arnel @ $220 ($22.00) a night.
We went to the ruins of Monte Alban.
It covers a huge area, while there a man tried to sell us a figerane that he said he had found there when he was a child. Only he had a lot of differant ones in his bag. As we walked around we saw more men trying to sell items trying to tell you that they were some that they or someone in their family had found. We did get some to tell us they were copies. It is agenst the law to buy artafacts, so be careful when someone trys to sell you something that looks like it is an artfact.
We walked to one of the parks in town early in the evening. It was one of the smaller parks in this city only two blocks long. There are still a lot of people using the park. We could hear fireworks going off somewhere in the city.
I can't get over how much the parks are used, they all seem to be an evening meeting place, a place where the family comes in the evening. The childern playing, without, it seems, worring about beeing harmed or kidnapped. How I wish we could see this going on in the parks at home.
Their is a church right next to our hotel, that's were the fireworks or bottle rockets are going off.
