January 21, 2009 Wednesday miércoles
Mosquitoes were biting early this morning. I could hear them buzzing by my ear and started itching were they had bitten me. I had kicked off the blanket during the night as it was hot. It was too hot to pull the sheet up over my head to keep the bugs away. I don’t know what time they finely went away. Larry said he was bitten too.
We started to walk to the bank to exchange some big peso bills for some smaller ones when we ran into Val and Ray. They were talking to another couple and wanted to know how we got to Santiago last year. We talked with them for a while before going on to the bank.
Larry was going to get some fish today but decided it looked to old.
I went to Kane’s mini super to get some pina juice and peanuts. I decided that I would stop by Ann and Doug’s to let them know where we were going for lunch. Ann was walking down the street by the school. She was taking her laundry to get it done. So I walked with her to the Lavanderia Mimi. We then walked back to our bungalow.
Larry and I went to the economico for lunch. I was hoping to get a chili rellenos but he didn’t make them today. We decided to go to a different economico that Ron had told us about.
I had a chicken soup, Larry had eggs ranchero. He said his was real good, my soup was better than I thought it would be. I think the tortillas were made right there as they looked homemade. We paid 70 pesos for our meal that’s less than $7.00 US.
While we were eating we saw the bread being delivered to the store were we buy it, so we bought some bread before heading back home.
At the Plaza Jim was talking to Ron about some medical problems he was having, Ron said he would see what he could do to find someone to help him. This opened the door for me to ask Ron how to go about finding pills for my acid reflex as I have been out for at least 6 months. We don’t have health insurance; I can’t afford to buy NEXICUM in the states.
He took us to several places to find the pills I need. The first one did have NEXICUM but the price for 7 pills was 375 pesos. They did have some other pills that were like NEXICUM at 106 pesos for 7 pills. The last place we went to had generic pills, 30 for 120 pesos. I bought them, hope they work,
I had been using PEPCID Complete, which sort of helped, but I really need more. We will see how this goes.
