March 13, 2011
Wednesday March 9 we caught the 9:00am bus to Tepic. Larry needed to get money out of the bank and needed a new pair of earphones for the laptop.

We had to ride our bikes to the bus station as it is still in its temporary building close to the edge of town. This was the first time I remember the bus having to stop for cattle on the road.

When we arrived in Tepic we decided to get something to eat. We always have a hard deciding where we want to eat, knowing that VIP’S has good coffee we decided we would go there.

On the way to VIP’S we stopped I the big store called LAY’S to look for the headphones, they didn’t have them. The next store was Walmart. I found several headphones and bought a pair for 290 pesos. That’s less than $29.00.

Our next stop was VIP’S. Larry had egg’s Americana for 80 pesos. I ordered French toast, but got chicken tostadas. The tostadas were 95 pesos. The coffee was good but was 20 pesos for each cup.

We then made our way across the street to Office Depot to see if they had headphones for less. It was 1 peso less for the same headphones.

Larry then wanted to go to the bank which was across the street, then he wanted to cross the street so we could go to Soriana’s another big store. Then we would have to cross it again to go to the bus station. I don’t like to cross the street as it is a 4 lane and you never know from which direction the cars are coming. So we decided that Larry would go to the bank, and then meet me in Soriana’s.

It seemed to take forever for Larry to show up. Then when he did he didn’t have any money. The ATM told Larry he did not the funds in the bank. He tried 2 different machines before a man asked Larry if he needed help. What Larry was told was he couldn’t get money because he didn’t have an account with them.

We then went downtown to the bigger bank. We were told not enough funds in the account and we needed to call Larry’s bank.

As soon as we got back home we got on the computer Larry checked his bank statement and it showed that $650.00 had been withdrawn, but the transaction was still pending. Using skype we called his bank. After talking with 5 people we finely got them to understand we did not get the money.

We had to call them again on Thursday, and when Larry checked his account on Friday the money was back in his account but still pending. It could be pending for up to 45 days.

It is getting warmer here now. We have taken all the blankets off the bed, using just the sheet. The other night we even left one of the windows open.

Here we are swiming at Bahia de Matachen or Matachen Bay.

Here Val is calling the neighborhood children out to get some ice cream from the ice cream truck.

Monday March 7 2011

This man comes door to door selling coconuts. He cuts them so they will set on a table, with a hole in the top and gives you a straw so you can drink the milk.

We had an exciting week last week. We helped with the spade and neuter clinic for dogs and cats. We worked on Wednesday and Friday. Larry was helping in pre-op and I was in recovery. On Wednesday one dog escaped and ran away. The owners did find the dog and said they would bring it back on Thursday. It was Larry that let the dog escape. He had ran after it and brought a dog back. He had the biggest smile on his face, only it was the wrong dog. The owner of the dog was in hot pursuit saying, no, my dog!

On Friday one of the first dogs Larry took out of the carrier decided she wanted nothing to do with this and bite Larry on both hands. The Vet’s wife took Larry to Salud Seguro Popular (the hospital). They cleaned his wounds and bandaged them up. Larry thought one of them should have been stitched but they said no. It was 100 pesos for the visit to the hospital.

When he got back to the clinic the vet demoted him from pre-op to recovery which for me was great as we were short on help.

Today we went to the bay, to Tony’s café on the beach. We went with our friends Val and Ray. We rode in the back of Tony’s pickup.

I found some more shells on my walk down the beach. When I got back to the café Larry and Val were in the water. Ray had gone in but didn’t stay. I decided it was time to go in too. So for the first time this year I went in the water.

Around 3 in the afternoon a car load of people showed up and ordered food. Now Tony gets back at 4 so they can close up but the food for them wasn’t ready to serve until 4:30. We thought of taking a taxi back but decided to wait. We got back to our place at 6:00.

This is how we looked on our way back home.

Even though it was late I really wanted to take a shower. When I looked in the mirror I could not believe how sunburned I was. Luckily we had a lot of really hot water.
We had a great day.
